Do It Scared: You Don’t Have to Be Fearless to Change Your Life

For a long time, I believed I had to feel ready before I could change my life.

I thought I needed to be stronger, healthier, more confident, or less afraid. I kept waiting for the perfect moment—the moment when fear would disappear and I would finally feel brave enough to move forward.

That moment never came.

What came instead was the realization that I didn’t need to stop being scared. I just needed to stop letting fear make my decisions.

That is what Do It Scared means to me.

My Life Didn’t Always Look Like This

If you see me now—traveling, speaking, building businesses, creating content, and walking into rooms full of strangers—you might assume I have always been confident.

I haven’t.

Behind the smile is a woman who spent decades carrying childhood trauma, chronic pain, depression, and illness. I spent 27 years in pain. I was on 11 prescriptions. At my sickest, I was homebound for nearly two years, used a walker, and barely recognized the woman I had become.

I had spent so much of my life surviving that I didn’t know how to truly live.

There were days when I felt completely hopeless. I couldn’t imagine how my life could ever be different because I couldn’t see a way out of where I was.

But healing didn’t happen through one giant, fearless decision.

It happened through small, scary steps.

Healing Is Not a Straight Line

Healing can be messy. It can be uncomfortable, lonely, and completely different from what you expected.

Sometimes healing means telling the truth about what happened to you.

Sometimes it means setting boundaries with people you love.

Sometimes it means letting go of the version of yourself that learned to survive—and giving yourself permission to become someone new.

And sometimes healing simply means getting out of bed and choosing not to give up that day.

I didn’t wake up one morning completely healed, confident, and ready to take on the world. I moved forward one decision at a time. Some days those decisions felt powerful. Other days, they felt almost impossible.

But every time I chose to take another step, I was showing myself that fear did not get to be in charge anymore.

Courage Doesn’t Mean You Aren’t Afraid

We often think courageous people are fearless.

They aren’t.

Courage is feeling the fear and moving anyway.

It is using your voice even when it shakes. It is walking into the room even when you feel like you don’t belong. It is starting over when you have no idea what comes next.

Courage is choosing yourself after years of abandoning your own needs.

You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. You don’t need everyone to understand your choices. You don’t need permission to want more for your life.

You only need enough courage to take the next step.

Shift. Move. Become.

My journey—and the message behind Do It Scared—can be summed up in three words:

Shift. Move. Become.

Shift the way you see yourself and what you believe is possible.

Move before you feel completely ready.

Become the person you were always meant to be—not the person your trauma, fear, illness, or past convinced you that you had to remain.

Your transformation will not happen all at once. It will happen every time you choose growth over comfort, truth over pretending, and possibility over fear.

This Is Your Reminder

Maybe you are reading this while standing at the beginning of your own healing journey.

Maybe you know something in your life needs to change, but you are terrified to take the first step. Maybe you have spent years taking care of everyone else and have forgotten what it feels like to choose yourself.

I want you to know this:

You are not too broken.

You are not too old.

You have not missed your chance.

Your past may explain parts of you, but it does not get to decide your future.

You don’t have to see the entire road ahead. You only have to take the next step—even if your hands are shaking, your voice is trembling, and fear is coming along for the ride.

Do it uncertain.

Do it imperfectly.

Do it before you feel ready.

Just Do It Scared.

Welcome to Keepn Up with Court. This is where we’ll talk honestly about healing, trauma, wellness, courage, reinvention, and what it takes to reclaim your life.

I’m so glad you’re here.
